Home / What is RPL
Scope Training is a Perth-based RTO delivering flexible, nationally recognised training across Australia, with tailored programs for individuals and businesses.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is simply a skills assessment. It’s a pathway which recognises a student’s previous work achievements and competencies in view of attaining a nationally recognised qualification.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is offered to students who currently possess the majority or all of the required skills within the qualification they are seeking. Competency based training allows for the issue of qualifications based upon the abilities demonstrated by the learner, which does not always require the student to go down the learning and assessment pathway.
RPL exists as an alternate pathway for students who already meet most or all of the course requirements at the time of enrolling. This may be a result of significant work experience in the field, or other equivalent studies.
As such, the RPL pathway does not replace training; it is an alternate pathway for situations where training is not required, rather recognition of existing skills is the goal. If you are considering the RPL pathway, we suggest you start by reviewing the list of units in the qualification and self-assess if you believe you will be able to provide existing evidence for each unit.
At Scope Training, the RPL process is designed to be student-focussed, and you are supported throughout by one of our industry-experienced training consultants.
Nathan was excellent with his presentations and team engagement, really great course. Great perspectives which made me think differently.

I would highly recommend using Scope Training. I had a great experience completing my Cert IV in leadership & management with Jason. He is very responsive, professional and very approachable. I will definitely use Scope Training in the future.

I have worked with a number of RTOs and Scope have by far been the best to deal with! They are always responsive to emails and calls, and are happy to answer any questions you have. Nic in particular was very helpful and always enjoyable to work with. I highly recommend this RTO and will definitely use them again should I want to complete any further study.

Just completed my Cert IV in Leadership and Management with Nathan at Scope. The course was engaging, relevant and interactive. I usually struggle to focus when sitting in courses but Nathan structured the course so well, I was always engaged! Best Facilitator I’ve ever had.

Just completed the Cert IV In Leadership and Management. Nathan is a great trainer and the course is very engaging! I definitely improved a few leadership skills including public speaking.

The RPL process requires you to collect and submit evidence that demonstrates your competency in each of the units of the qualification you are seeking. There is no training or assessment required for the qualification; rather it is a matter of you providing evidence which is assessed against the competencies contained within the qualification.
The amount of work will depend on how easily you can access the required evidence and compile it for submission. We recommend you read through the unit listing for your desired qualification and consider what evidence you have access to that would demonstrate your competency in each unit.
Upon enrolment, you will be assigned to one of our Subject Area Expert training consultants who will guide you through the RPL process and assess the evidence you provide. This involves mapping each of the competencies against your provided evidence to ensure your evidence meets all the requirements of the qualification.
In some cases, there may be gaps in your evidence, or you and your training consultant may identify areas that you may benefit from training. Your enrolment fee covers any incidental gap training associated with that qualification.
In instances where the gaps are larger, your training consultant will discuss your options and you may agree that you will move over to the learning and assessment pathway if that will provide a more effective outcome.
As a potential Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) student, you will first complete a suitability assessment (see below) to determine eligibility for RPL in your chosen course.
If you believe you will be eligible for RPL, please complete our Recognition of Prior Learning Assessment so our training consultants can assess this for you before proceeding. This assessment will prompt you to attach a recent resume, describe your work experience and acknowledge any previous qualifications you have achieved. For previous VET training courses, please your Statement of Attainment so we can cross-reference units and see if you can be credited for units previously completed.
We will then assess your suitability – this comes at no cost and you are not obligated to go ahead. It allows both parties to be informed and start on the same page.
If you are deemed suitable for our RPL pathway, we will move to the enrolment process. This consists of a lower course fee which we will advise if you are successful, and completion of an enrolment form will follow. You will then be assigned to one of our training consultants who will work closely with you to map your evidence to suit the unit and qualification requirements.
