What is a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Starting in 2015 any student undertaking a nationally recognised qualification in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This becomes a unified way for all Registered Training Organisations to store student information. Essentially the USI keeps a student’s VET history in one easy accessible location.
Benefits of a USI
This unique number will enable the self-management of a student’s academic information; students will be able to access their results as well as print off evidence of completed training to assist securing further employment opportunities.
Students will also be able to use the USI to allow training organisations to apply credit transfers where applicable.
How to apply for a USI
The application for a USI is a quick process which can be completed online. The only requirement would be one of the following “acceptable” forms of identity.
